On June 28th, the CEO of Envision announced the opening of a new battery factory in Douai, in the Hauts-de-France region. This decision follows Renault’s choice to use Envision AESC to equip its electric vehicles that will be assembled at the Douai factory.
A €2 billion project with 2,500 jobs by 2030
Competiting against Finland and the Czech Republi, the Hauts-de-France Region is welcoming its second gigafactory which is going to invest €2-billion investment. The production capacity of the new Douai factory will reach 9GWh in 2024 and 24GWh by 2030 for the production of low-carbon footprint batteries. Approximately 2,500 jobs will be created by 2030. Renault also plans to increase electric vehicle sales to 90% by 2030. This project, supported by the state and the region, has received assistance from Business France and Nord France Invest, the investment promotion agency for Northern France. With this new investment, the Hauts-de-France region confirms its economic attractiveness in the electric vehicle sector and becomes the ‘battery valley’ of France with a total production capacity of 48GWh.
