Investing in people and equipment
Prysmian Group’s Sainte-Geneviève manufacturing site near Beauvais specializes in cables for the aerospace industry. The group has invested €4 million in a new 740 sq m metalworking unit and expects to spend another €3 million to expand it to 1,800 sq m—creating up to 15 new jobs in the process. The shop makes conductors that are essential to Prysmian’s operations in Hauts-de-France, and bringing production in-house reflects the group’s confidence in the manufacturing expertise on tap at the Beauvais site.
New targets
For Prysmian Group, the investment is a way to reduce costs and boost productivity before staking out positions with new clients and markets such as Boeing and China. The company will also be more responsive to the needs of existing customers, including Airbus, a longstanding client that accounts for 70% of its total output. By 2020, Prysmian hopes to meet 80% of its conductor needs internally—in all, several hundred metric tons of high-end nickel-plated copper wire.
