Herta invests €58.5 million in Hauts-de-France

Herta: a total investment of €85 million

Herta, which is jointly owned by Nestlé and Spanish company Casa Terradellas, has announced plans to invest €85 million nationally over two years.

It’s a first and it proves how strong the company’s position. Its usual investment levels are around €15 million per year.

This massive investment will allow the company to improve employees’ working conditions, increase production capacity and improve its logistics, which have been put to the test by the pandemic.

€58.5 million Herta investment heading for the Hauts-de-France region

Over half of Herta’s investment will go to two sites in Hauts-de-France:

  • €57 million for the Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise facility in Pas-de-Calais
  • €1.5 million for its logistics platform in Le Meux, Oise

“This investment demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the Hauts-de-France region, the historic cradle of our production. It also affirms our desire to strengthen our argifood know-how within France […] Thanks to this investment, we can look to the future with confidence and continue to innovate while responding to the demands of our customers and assuming our leadership.” Arnaud de Belloy, Managing Director, Herta.

Modernising and strengthening production capacity at the brand’s main industrial facility in Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise

Investment in the Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise site, where the brand’s major product lines are produced, will allow it to:

  • Build a 3,000m2 extension for a new packaging facility for its famous Knacki sausages
  • Increase production capacity
  • Expand the quality laboratory

“The aim is to maintain employment and increase staff skills in an upgraded work environment”, explains Alexis Gorline, Herta’s industrial director.

The site currently has 1,200 employees and produces 70,000 tonnes/year.

Upgrading the logistics platform at Le Meux

With the remaining €1.5 million heading for the Hauts-de-France region, Herta plans to modernise its logistics infrastructure along the following lines:

  • IT, implementing new technologies
  • Technical
  • Structural, through building upgrades and reducing energy and water consumption

“By targeting Hauts-de-France once again, Herta has chosen industrial excellence and the remarkable agrifood know-how of those employed in the region.” Xavier Bertrand, President, Hauts-de-France Region
