Inauguration and first crop
Last year we announced that the Vandevelde family, with the support of the Reo Veiling cooperative, decided to install a major tomato growing site in greenhouses at Arques, near Saint-Omer. On Thursday, the 11th of April, the company of Belgian origin inaugurated its site, on the occasion of the first crop of tomatoes!
The largest production site for tomatoes north of Paris
To install its 9.3 hectares of tomato greenhouses, Vandevelde purchased 13 hectares of land at Arques, near Saint-Omer and invested €16 million. The site has a cogeneration unit, producing 4.5 MW of electricity an hour. This site, the largest in northern France, should make it possible to produce crops of 6,000 tonnes of tomatoes a year (20–25 tonnes a day) and employ 55 people. The tomatoes will be marketed under the brands Nouveaux Producteurs and Eurêka France.
Nord France Invest’s role in the project
With the support of SOFIE agency, our local partner, Nord France Invest accompanied the investors through their installation project in Hauts-de-France, especially to find a site and handle administrative procedures. Learn more about the Agribusiness sector in Hauts-de-France.
