Akiem to build a new rail maintenance workshop in Hauts-de-France
Akiem is a leading player in rail leasing across France and Europe. The company will invest over €10 million in Ostricourt in Hauts-de-France to provide a new rail maintenance solution.
The workshop will extend the company’s European maintenance network to France. It will be contributing to the transformation and growth of freight rail in the region as well as reviving and decarbonising the industry.
A strategic workshop construction
The leader in European locomotive leasing chose the Hauts-de-France region for three key reasons:
Akiem aims to reduce current costs of maintenance in France to bring them in line with other European countries. The company will offer a very high-quality service with exceptional reliability and availability.
A promising development
Work will start in early 2022 for delivery in Spring 2023. The new workshop already has a contract in place to carry out mid-life overhauls for more than 150 locomotives over 5 years.
In addition to this industrial production, the Ostricourt team will oversee the operational maintenance of Akiem equipment. A substantial share of maintenance operations will be carried out at the new site.
“It’s more than just a workshop. It will be the vector in our strategy to develop industrial partnerships, innovation, training and skills in the Western European region. It will be a showcase for our ambitions and know-how. Its design and management will meet the latest environmental standards, a true testament to our commitment to sustainable development,” comments Fabien Rochefort, Akiem CEO.
